Chestnut Planting at Montreat College, Black Mountain, NC

Dr. Brian Joyce, Professor at Montreat College in Black Mountain, NC, and his students assisted Dr. Paul Sisco and summer interns of The American Chestnut Foundation in planting hybrid chestnuts at two of the four test sites established on the Terry Estate in Black Mountain, NC. Under the supervision of Dr. Brian Joyce interns and students prepare a bed for planting chestnuts. Bill Evans of Channel 13, WLOS Asheville, records the planting activities for use in a news segment about The American Chestnut Foundation that is to appear on Channel 13 at 6:00 PM on Friday, April 7, 2006.

David Flood, TACF Intern, instructs Montreat College students in how to plant American chestnuts and place an aluminum tube over a planted chestnut to protect it and the future seedling.  Translucent collars are also placed over the planted chestnuts that will protect the future, young seedlings.
