Gaither Hall, Montreat College, Use of American Chestnut Wood

January 16, 2007

Gaither Hall the Administration Building of Montreat College was built in 1935-1936 n memory of Thomas Hall Gaither and Bettie Kelly Gaither and used American chestnut wood harvested near the campus. The wood accents the Gothic architecture of the chapel and fellowship hall within the building.  In the nearby building that houses the Montreat Presbyterian Church offices a Communion Table constructed of American chestnut wood was used by Reverend Billy Graham and Ruth Graham at their wedding.
