Help Care for Trees in Maryland Orchards
Volunteer for Scheduled Work Day
Our chestnut orchards need regular care and monitoring to thrive. We welcome volunteers to help with this work, whether on a one-time basis or joining a caretaker team. You do not have to be a member to volunteer, although we would encourage you to join. Planned work days are listed on our schedule.
Please contact us by email if you’d like to help. That helps us plan our work days, and gives us a way to contact you if there is a need to change plans. We will send you driving directions to the orchard.
Please bring a container of water to drink. Be sure to dress for the weather, including protection from sun exposure and biting insects. Although we mow the orchards, exposure to poison ivy and other hazards of the natural world is a possibility. Work gloves and your favorite tools may be helpful depending on the task. Don’t hesitate to ask if you have questions.
Become an Orchard Steward
We are developing teams to provide leadership to ensure that each of our orchards is monitored regularly and receives appropriate care. Orchard stewards may focus on a single orchard in a location that can be visited frequently and are assisted in developing knowledge and skills for monitoring and caring for that orchard. Please let us know if you’d like to work with a specific Orchard Steward team. See the Map of Orchards for a general location of all current orchards.
