VOLUNTEER WORK DAY at TACF / EKU Regional Hybrid Chestnut Seed Orchard, Richmond, KY

Our next VOLUNTEER WORK DAY HAS BEGUN

Tandy Deskins of EKU Grounds Department, and one of our KY Chapter Leaders, mowed the EKU orchard for the first time this year..... to prepare for a SEEDLING PLANTING DAY Tuesday April 30th, beginning 9:00 a.m. We have 50 potted seedlings to plant.

We have several USFS Daniel Boone National Forest Team Members joining us for this event. Come on out and help us plant, or to enjoy seeing our 591 surviving hybrid American Chestnuts that are leafing out nicely.

Bring: light weight rain coat (just in case) Bring water/sodas, work gloves, post hole diggers, spade shovels.

If you're planning a drive through southern West Virginia, stop in at Camp Washington Carver, former 4-H Camp. Near Clifftop, Fayette County, WV

The Great Chestnut Lodge, a log building of unusual size and structural character, made entirely of American Chestnut. Built in 1941-42. The 4-H Camp was established by the West Virginia Legislature in 1937.
