Chestnut Chat Series: Site Selection and Planting

May 21, 2021 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Join us on Friday, May 21 at 11:30 AM (EDT) for the next LIVE Chestnut Chat: Site Selection and Planting American Chestnut

TACF Director of Restoration Sara Fern Fitzsimmons will cover the basics of proper site selection, how to find the right spot for putting in a chestnut, as well as how to get them planted. We will discuss soil properties and other abiotic aspects which determine suitability of a site for American chestnut. The testing of those aspects, and the effects of those variables on tree growth and performance will be covered.

Once you select a site, the next step is to prepare and plant the trees properly. Those can be planted as seeds, bareroot seedlings, and containerized seedlings. Long-term success depends on getting these initial stages right.
