Chestnut Chat: Cold Tolerance
February 18 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
February’s Chestnut Chat will cover cold tolerance and regional adaptability in American chestnut. Dr. Paul Schaberg, a research plant physiologist with the U.S. Forest Service, has mentored two TACF Regional Science Coordinators: Kendra Collins and Tom Saielli. Under his tutelage at the University of Vermont, they helped to install, maintain, and conduct research on American chestnut provenance trials installed in the Green Mountain Forest in Vermont.
For a preview of the talk, we recommend these papers:
- American chestnut restoration in New England – cold damage as an added challenge
- Nut cold hardiness as a factor influencing the restoration of American chestnut in northern latitudes and high elevations
