Chestnut Chat Series: Historic Importations and Chestnut Cultivars

February 19, 2021 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

In this installment of Chestnut Chat, we’ll be joined by two incredibly experienced chestnut growers and breeders. Sandra Anagnostakis is a retired plant pathologist and chestnut breeder from the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES). Michael Nave is a California-based chestnut grower of dozens of cultivars and varieties, and may have the most diverse collection of chestnut types in the country.

Sandy will cover the history of chestnut importation and cultivar development. Mike will then follow, covering the breeding and selection process of ”big name” cultivars, which many people encounter when looking for commercially available chestnut varieties.
