CT-TACF Naugatuck SF, Sanford Block Chestnut Hike

A previous timber harvest at this location has potential for chestnut sprouts to grow to flowering height.  It is unknown if there are any chestnuts in this area, but was suggested as a good place to look by a DEEP forester.  On this hike we will search for the flowering chestnut trees.  We will also be holding an optional workshop to learn how to obtain samples to verify their pure American status and additional information to enter them in our database.  Wear tick and/or bug protective clothing as some trees may be encountered off the trail and need some bushwacking to reach.  Meet at the Quinnipiac Trailhead off of Downs Rd.
